Quirky,
sophisticated, quaint, artistic, and eclectic, are just a few of the adjectives
to describe this year’s tour. Homes
from the early 1900’s to contemporary and sophisticated lake homes will be
featured on this year’s tour.
Perhaps the most
unusual home is locally known as the Owl House. This home is distinguished not only by the hand carved owl, but
by its European chalet design. Custom carpentry and woodwork throughout the
home enhance this wood lover’s dream.
The home’s furnishings include a two (2) million year old petrified
Arizona hardwood coffee table, a one (1) million year old petrified hemlock end
table and a Sequoia cactus lamp. Cross
stitching, crewel art and hand made quilts contribute to the charm of this
unusual home.
If you like stepping
back in time, you will totally enjoy an early 1900’s kit home that has been
preserved with all its original integrity. Featured in this kit home are the
original hardwood floors and bathtub.
This kit home is the Miracle design by the Sterling Company of Bay City,
MI.
How about a trip to
Grandmother’s house, filled with country art and antiques this home is like a
picture postcard, including the beautiful gardens. This home is sure to bring back happy memories of days gone by.
For those who like
the charm and architecture of an older home yet need the additional space and
convenience of a modern home, this home is a must. The owners have been careful
to retain the charm of their 1920’s bungalow when they added an addition and a
“state of the art” kitchen with sitting room.
With lovely gardens and a vintage aura, this home will be enjoyed by
all.
If you like a
bathroom full of flamingos and a wall of old Detroit pictures, you can see this
and more in a remodeled colonial that was once the home of the first Oakland
County executive, Daniel Murphy.
Three lake front
homes are featured on this year’s tour.
Each is filled with exquisite art, designer furniture and each features
wonderful views of the lake. The base
of the table on the downstairs deck at one of the homes is actually a stump
from a tree that had to be cut down.
Another home features an indoor/outdoor fireplace on its three level
deck.
As in the past, come
enjoy the beautiful gardens on the tour in addition to the entertainment in
memorial park.
You can readily see that this year’s tour is unique
and charming, just like our pretty little tree lined city. Come join us at “A march of time”, Sylvan
Lake where real people live.
