The 5th annual Sylvan Lake Home and Garden Tour will feature 8 homes plus 5 additional gardens.  Five of the homes have been completely remodeled still keeping their early 20th century charm.   The three large and contemporary newer homes feature breathtaking views of the lake and art from around the world.

Beautiful gardens designed to blossom the entire season will be a prominent feature on this year’s tour. Our amateur gardeners will be happy to share their green thumb ideas with tour participants.   For history buffs, our town historian, Helen Jane Peters and her committee have prepared a display of Sylvan Lake history starting at the turn of the century for all to enjoy. The historical committee will also provide free lemonade and sugar cookies for tour participants at the Ferndale beach.  Complimentary shuttle vans are available for those who prefer to ride rather than walk or bike.

Take out a wall here, add an addition there and voila, you create the home of your dreams.  Space does not allow for descriptions of all of our outstanding homes.  Each of the 8 homes on the tour feature unique art from around the world, beautiful furnishings and an artist’s eye for color.  Each home is new to the tour and each home is uniquely different.  Our tour offers everything from turn of the century homes to sleek and modern recently built contemporary homes.  Each of the remodeled homes is a lesson for anyone considering modernizing.

“IT JUST TAKES IMAGINATION”

Imagine red industrial tool boxes as the dining room buffet.  Imagine fryer baskets mounted to the kitchen walls as veggie holders.  Imagine recycled factory lights over the dining room table which is handcrafted by the owner of the home who is an artisan and culinary school graduate.  The galley kitchen features reclaimed oiled butcher blocks over the under-counter refrigeration.  The open overhead stainless shelving, the oversized pot rack and the wheeled shelving carts keep everything at arm’s reach.  Stainless steel toolboxes are used for the cutlery, flatware and spices.  The salvaged industrial sinks and the Hobart dishwasher with a 90 second wash cycle make for a quick clean-up in this “kitchen to die for”.

Imagine salvaged sconces that were explosion-proof lighting in an oil refinery as lighting in the unique main floor bathroom.  Imagine a chopping block retrieved from a demolished hotel in Oregon as the countertop for the free-form sink. The bathroom hardware is created from galvanized piping.  Imagination and creativity are the bywords for this “got to see it for yourself”, 1919 craftsman bungalow, remodeled in 2006.

Bring your bikes, walking shoes or use our free shuttle vans to enjoy a day in the quaint little lakeside city of Sylvan Lake.   As in the past, all proceeds from the tour will go towards the new Sylvan Lake Community Center which will open this summer.
