“BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU WILL FIND”

We’re celebrating!!!!!, we have added another house with history to the annual Sylvan Lake home and garden tour.  According to neighborhood lore, there was a Purple gang hangout with the original bar used by the Purple Gang still in tact.  Upon investigation, we were able to find out that this lakefront home was a speakeasy downstairs and a house of ill repute on the upper level.  The basement had three exit doors for easy escape when the place was raided.  The kindly grandma who owns the home has agreed to allow the basement to be available for the tour.  You will see the original bar with beer tap and mirrors.  If this bar were on the Antique Road Show, the experts would certainly comment on the patina of the bar.    Two of the exits have been closed off, but where they were originally will be marked for all to see.

Rumor has it that this was a “safe house” where Purple Gang members would cool their heels when they were wanted for arrest.  After awhile they would be taken away in the middle of the night to avoid arrest.

The committee plans to have Purple Gang pictures and articles for view.

For information about all the homes on the tour including another home used by the Purple Gang, please visit our website www.sylvantour.com where you will find our original press release which this is an addition to.
